1971年に発表された2枚組アルバム『Fly』に収録された「Mind Train」は、約17分にも及ぶ壮大なアヴァンギャルド・ファンク・ジャムである。ジョン・レノン（ギター）やクラウス・フォアマン（ベース）、ジム・ケルトナー（ドラム）らが参加し、執拗に反復されるベースラインと、後年のクラウトロックやポストパンクを先取りしたようなモータリックなビートを展開している。この呪術的なグルーヴに乗せ、ヨーコ・オノは自身の声を機関車の駆動音（「Dub-dub」）と同化させ、独自のボーカル・パーカッションとして機能させている。歌詞には「あの男を殺そうと考えた」という衝撃的なフレーズが反復され、彼女の深層心理に渦巻くトラウマ、怒り、そして絶え間なく押し寄せる強迫観念が、心の中を走り抜ける「列車」のメタファーを通して生々しく表現されている。単なる前衛芸術の枠を超え、ダンスミュージックやオルタナティヴ・ロックの文脈においても極めて先鋭的であった彼女の音楽的才能と、抑圧された精神の解放が記録された歴史的マスターピースである。

※「33」という数字の選択には複数の解釈が存在する。一つは、キリストが処刑された年齢など、数秘術において高度な精神性や覚醒を意味するマスターナンバーとしての意味合い。もう一つは、単純に彼女の心の中を高速で過ぎ去る列車の車両の窓の数であり、フラッシュバックのように連続する記憶の断片を暗示しているという説である。
