概要
「Sunlight」は、2007年にリリースされたWu-Tang Clanの5作目のスタジオアルバム『8 Diagrams』に収録されている、極めて特異な楽曲だ。Wu-Tang名義のトラックでありながら、他のメンバーのバースはなく、実質的にグループの総帥であるRZAのソロトラックとなっている。瞑想的でオーガニックなストリングスとハープのループを背景に、RZAは自身の精神的支柱であるFive-Percent Nation（Nation of Gods and Earths）の教義や、イスラム教的・汎神論的な神（アッラー）の概念を深く掘り下げるコンシャスなリリックを展開する。また、貧しい人々から搾取する商業主義的なメガチャーチ（巨大教会）への痛烈な批判も込められている。楽曲の冒頭と結びには、Wu-Tangのトレードマークであるカンフー映画（武術の極意を説くセリフ）のサンプリングが配置され、武術の身体性とRZAの深遠な精神世界が完全にシンクロした、コアなヒップホップヘッズから高く評価される哲学的マスターピースである。
