1997年にリリースされたソロデビューアルバム『The 18th Letter』に収録された本作は、Rakimが「The God MC」と称される所以が最も色濃く、かつ美しく表現された歴史的傑作である。Naughty by NatureのDJ Kay Geeが手掛けた荘厳でメロウなビートに乗せ、Rakimは宇宙の起源、ビッグバン、惑星の誕生から生命の起源に至るまでを、極めて科学的かつ哲学的な視点で描写していく。歌詞の根底にあるのは、彼が信仰する「ファイブ・パーセンターズ（5 Percent Nation）」の思想だ。「Supreme Mathematics（至高の数学）」やコーラン、聖書、さらにはフリーメイソンのオカルティズムまでを縦横無尽に引用し、「神（God）とは空の上にいる不可視の存在ではなく、目覚めた黒人男性（そして人間そのもの）の中に存在する」という究極の教義を説く。ヒップホップのリリシズムを、ストリートカルチャーの枠を越えて宗教や宇宙論のレベルにまで押し上げた、類を見ないコンシャス・ラップの金字塔である。
