概要
「Shut It Down」は、2010年にリリースされたDrakeのデビューアルバム『Thank Me Later』に収録された、約7分にも及ぶ壮大な2部構成のR&Bチューンである。2000年代後半から2010年代初頭のR&Bシーンを牽引したヒットメーカー、The-Dreamを客演に迎え、OVOサウンドの核である40（Noah "40" Shebib）とOmenが共同プロデュースを手掛けた。前半（Part I）では、クラブに現れるなり周囲の視線を独占し、その場を完全に圧倒する（Shut it down）魅力的な女性への惜しみない賛美を歌い上げる。そして曲調がスローダウンする後半（Part II）では、パーティーの後に彼女をベッドへと誘う、Drake特有の甘くも執拗な「Lover Boy」としての本性が露わになる。ドレスアップ（ヒールを履く）からメイクダウン（ヒールを脱ぐ）へのコントラストが美しく描かれた、Drakeのロマンティックなペルソナを堪能できる初期の隠れた名曲である。
