本作は、ヒップホップ史に輝く名盤『To Pimp a Butterfly』のフィナーレを飾る12分超の大作である。前半では「俺が困難に直面し、世間から叩かれた時、お前はまだファンでいてくれるか？」と問いかけ、ネルソン・マンデラをはじめとする偉大な指導者たちも欠点や葛藤を抱えた「ただの人間（Mortal Man）」であることを語る。後半では、アルバムを通して断片的に朗読されてきた詩の全貌が明かされ、それが亡き伝説のラッパー、2Pacに向けたものであったことが判明する。1994年の2Pacのインタビュー音源をサンプリングし、時空を超えた「疑似対話」を構築する構成は圧巻だ。最後にアルバムタイトルの意味である「毛虫と蝶」のメタファーを語りかけるが、2Pacからの返答はなく静寂で幕を閉じる、あまりにも美しく余韻の残る結末である。

One thing it noticed is how much the world shuns him, but praises the butterfly
気づいたことの一つは、世界がどれほど毛虫を忌み嫌い、蝶を賛美するかということだ。
The butterfly represents the talent, the thoughtfulness and the beauty within the caterpillar
蝶は、毛虫の中に秘められた才能、思慮深さ、そして美しさを象徴している。
But having a harsh outlook on life, the caterpillar sees the butterfly as weak
しかし、過酷な人生観を持つ毛虫は、蝶を『弱い存在』だと見なす。
And figures out a way to pimp it to his own benefits
そして、自分の利益のために蝶を搾取（Pimp）する方法を考え出すんだ。
※アルバムのタイトル『To Pimp a Butterfly（蝶を搾取する）』の意味がここで回収される。
Already surrounded by this mad city, the caterpillar goes to work on the cocoon which institutionalizes him
すでに狂った街に囲まれている毛虫は、自分を制度化（閉じ込める）するサナギ（Cocoon）を作り始める。
He can no longer see past his own thoughts, he's trapped
彼はもう自分自身の考えの先を見ることができず、囚われの身となる。
When trapped inside these walls certain ideas take root, such as going home, and bringin' back new concepts to this mad city
この壁の中に囚われた時、あるアイデアが根付く。故郷に帰り、この狂った街に新しい概念を持ち帰るというようなアイデアが。
The result? Wings begin to emerge, breakin' the cycle of feelin' stagnant
その結果は？羽が現れ始め、停滞感のサイクルを打ち破るんだ。
Finally free, the butterfly sheds light on situations that the caterpillar never considered
ついに自由になった蝶は、毛虫が決して考えもしなかった状況に光を当てる。
Endin' the internal struggle
内なる葛藤を終わらせるんだ。
Although the butterfly and caterpillar are completely different
蝶と毛虫は完全に異なる存在だが。
They are one and the same"
彼らは、全く同じ一つの存在なんだ」
